Existing Title Sequence Analysis

The Conjuring

For our coursework we decided to create a title sequence for a horror film. Therefore, we saw it fit to research title sequences of a similar genre.

We found this title sequence interesting as it consisted of no live action but it used newspaper cuttings and photographs to show who played each character and the production roles.

Our Media Trip The British Film Institute (BFI)

My media class had a trip to the British Film Institute in Central London which was a seminar about our coursework. The seminar began with Pete (a former media studies teacher at Cambridge University) showing us a few opening sequences from www.artofthetitle.com. The opening sequences we watched were Napoleon Dynamite (2004) and Catch Me If You Can (2002).

• Catch Me If You Can was an example of an animated opening sequence that was maybe too difficult and complex for us to do as our coursework but it was a good example to show how professionals would do it in the industry.

• Napoleon Dynamite was an example of a more simple opening sequence that Pete suggested was a good idea for an opening sequence. It was filmed over a table where the names of all the producers, actors, etc. were written on everyday objects.

On the trip, we also learnt a lot of valuable tips as Pete also showed us some opening sequences other students filmed at A-level. This showed us that we shouldn't show too much action in the opening sequence as other students had done.

Preliminary Task

Me, Mustafa and Ali had grouped together for our preliminary task. It was the first time any of us used the equipment so it was a learning task to allow us to develop our skills.
